A wall calendar for families

Most years just happen.
This one won't.

This Year is a wall calendar built around a single question: before January starts, what is this year actually for? It asks your family to commit — out loud, in ink, on the wall — to the things you'd otherwise mean to do and never get to.

The This Year 2027 calendar hanging on a living room wall above a sideboard, the whole year visible at a glance with tasks marked in colour.
A0 — a full square metre of wall. Example year shown; stickers are included, the year is yours.

The problem with a normal calendar

A calendar full of appointments is not a life.

Every calendar in the shops is built to hold what other people put in your year. Dentist. Term dates. Someone else's birthday. Work. It's an inbox for other people's claims on your time, and by December it's full, and you still can't name what the year was about.

You own your calendar. You own your time. You own your life.

We're a homeschooling family. We're around each other nearly all day, and we still found ourselves getting to the end of a year having done almost none of the things we said mattered. Not because we're lazy — because nothing ever asked us to write them down and put a date on them.

So we made the calendar that asks. It comes with a process, not just a grid — an hour at the table we call the Family AGM, where you look honestly at the year ending and take on the five tasks below for the year ahead. Then they're on the wall, at eye level, every day, for twelve months. That's the whole idea. It is remarkably hard to ignore something on the wall.

A closer look

Mark the days, and the year stops being vague

The 2027 calendar as it arrives: twelve month rows, every day of the year, blank, with the five task colours keyed along the bottom.

Your calendar arrives blank. The whole year, one page, nothing filled in.
The same calendar after a family AGM, with task stickers marking a tradition in February, a test in April, a ten-day trip in June, a trade in August and a treat in December.

And after an hour at the table. Stickers shown are examples only.

Each task gets a colour, and the calendar comes with a sheet of stickers to match. You mark the days each one lands on, and a trip in June stops being "sometime this year" — it becomes ten days you can point at from across the kitchen. Nothing hidden behind a month flip.

What it asks you to commit to

Five tasks, before the year starts.

Every This Year calendar asks your family to commit to five year-defining tasks, together. You choose them on purpose, you write them in, and they stay in front of you for twelve months.

Task 01

The Test

One hard thing you'll take on as a family this year. Big enough that you're slightly nervous writing it down. It gets a start date and an end date, not a vague intention.

"Walk the Cape to Cape together. Four days. April."

Task 02

The Trip

Somewhere none of you have been. Not a holiday you'd book anyway — a new place, chosen on purpose, because a memory made somewhere unfamiliar sticks in a way the ordinary ones don't.

"Karijini. Never seen it. Booked for September."

Task 03

The Tradition

Something you'll repeat until the kids can't remember a time you didn't do it. Traditions aren't found, they're started — usually by someone deciding on a date.

"First Friday of every month is ours. Phones in the drawer."

Task 04

The Trade

Build something together. Save for something together. Turn up somewhere that needs hands. You're trading your time, money and energy for something that matters — and doing it as a family. It's a date, not a routine: one weekend, or the same marker every year.

"First day of winter. A day at the food bank, all of us."

Task 05 · The family's choice

The Treat, or The Tree.

The last one is yours to pick. One is pure joy, the other outlives you. Neither is the safe answer — talk about it properly before you choose.

Option A

The Treat

Celebrate something, for no reason at all. Not a birthday, not a holiday — a party thrown just because you decided to. One purely for the memory banks.

Option B

The Tree

Plant one together. Give life to something that keeps growing after the year ends, after the kids leave, after you. Twelve months of work, a hundred years of shade.

How it works · The Family AGM

An evening at the table, then a year on the wall.

Every company stops once a year, looks honestly at what it did, and decides what it's doing next. Almost no family does. So the calendar comes with the one meeting that fixes that.

Step 01

Hold your AGM

One hour, once a year, at the table. The calendar comes with the guide — the questions you read aloud, written to get real answers out of a seven-year-old and a tired adult alike. Everyone speaks, youngest first.

Step 02

Write it in, in ink

Your five tasks, plus the dates they actually happen on. Pen, not pencil. That's not a gimmick — committing in ink changes how it feels, and you'll notice the difference the moment you do it. Then mark the days with the stickers, one colour per task, so the shape of your year is readable from across the room.

Step 03

Give it the good wall

Not the study. Not the hallway you walk past without looking up. The wall you stand in front of every day — the one you'd hang art on. Prime real estate, because a year you can't see is a year you'll let slide.

Who's behind it

We made this for our own kitchen first.

We're Mike and Melissa. We homeschool our two kids here in Perth, so we're around each other nearly all day — and for a long time we were still the family that talked a big game about intentional living and then got to Christmas having mostly just got through it. If you've felt that, we've been there too.

We're in the middle of redesigning our whole life — leaving a trade, building something of our own, being around for the kids while they're still young enough to want us around. The thing that keeps proving true is that nothing changes until it has a date on it. Not a goal. A date.

This Year is the tool we built for ourselves, and it worked well enough that we think it'll work in your house too. It's our first product and this is our first print run. We pack and post every one of them ourselves, from our place in Perth.

Before you order

Questions we get asked.

When will it actually arrive?

The first print run ships December 2026, which puts it on your wall before the new year starts. We'll email you when your order is packed, and again with a tracking number the moment it's handed to the courier.

Why order now if it ships in December?

Because this is our first run and it's a fixed number. The calendar is printed and on its way to us — ordering now reserves one out of that run, and when they're gone there isn't another batch before the year starts.

Do the kids really need to be involved?

That's the point. The AGM questions are written so a young child can answer them properly — they ask about days, not feelings. Everyone speaks, youngest first, so the kids aren't just agreeing with the adults. In our experience the kids come up with the tradition that sticks, and the adults come up with the excuses.

Can I use it as our normal day-to-day calendar too?

Yes, and most families do. There's room in every day cell for the ordinary stuff. It just isn't only that — the five tasks sit above the year so your appointments never quietly become the whole story.

Do you ship outside Australia?

We ship to Australia and New Zealand. Shipping is free anywhere in Australia, and a flat $15 tracked to anywhere in New Zealand — no matter how far out you are. We've kept it to those two countries for the first run so we can control the postage cost and be honest about the delivery date.

What if it's not what I expected?

Refund in full before it ships, just reply to your order email. After it arrives, if it turns up damaged or isn't right, tell us within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.
